Pianist and musicologist Anna Zassimova has drawn widespread attention through her rediscoveries of forgotten piano gems by Russian composers, including Vsevolod Zaderatzky, who taught music at the court of the Tsar up to the 1917 Russian Revolution. As a full expression of the pain and suffering of his time, Zaderatzky’s music is full of yearning for a long-gone epoch. Zassimova combines Zaderatzky’s Third Sonata with masterpieces by Liszt, Schubert, Debussy, and Fauré, which she once more illuminate with her brilliant technique and profound musicianship on the occasion of her 4th performance at the Ruhr Piano Festival.
