Vijay Iyer is an icon of contemporary jazz. Whatever the experimental pianist plays is heard, discussed, and celebrated. As a composer, Iyer has extensive experience working with classical ensembles. But at the heart of his musical creativity lies his trio.

In addition to a large share of his own compositions, he draws from a vast American repertoire, spanning from Cole Porter and Stevie Wonder to Roscoe Mitchell, uncovering fresh and exciting new aspects. Iyer often reflects on American society, saying that the restless undercurrent of his relationship with his own country influences him as an artist. However, he believes that music can create emotional, intellectual, and even political unity: “For me, that is the true story of jazz.”
