At a solo concert last year, Pablo Estigarribia presented his take on contemporary tango at the Piano Festival. The classically trained Argentine pianist and composer, who has a fondness for jazz, once considered tango to be bar music.

Today, he combines his tango with elements of both classical music and jazz, performing solo or with chamber and symphony orchestras. He opens the music to jazz-inspired improvisations and, much like Astor Piazzolla once did, expands the boundaries of the genre. For the Piano Festival, he will be joined by pianist Emilie Aridon Kociolek, who previously performed as part of the “Duo Abélard” in the opening act of the last Rammstein tour but has since found her musical home almost entirely in the world of tango.
