Arcadi Volodos auf dem Klavierfestival Ruhr 2020

Franz Schubert
Sonata No. 19 in C minor D958
Sonata No. 20 in A major D959
Sonata No. 21 in B flat major D960

Fabian Müller won several prizes at the renowned ARD International Music Competition in Munich in 2017; ever since then, he has been conquering international concert podiums far and wide, including Carnegie Hall in New York City and the Elbphilharmonie in Hamburg. A native of Bonn, he has been collaborating closely with the Ruhr Piano Festival ever since 2008. Müller is particularly involved in the Festival’s educational projects, which he supports with a passion. Although only 31 years old, Müller is already making his 26th appearance at the Festival. This year he has thus reached the same age as Franz Schubert when the latter wrote his three last sonatas. Müller finds a great degree of liveliness in these works. “Schubert’s music is like a rainbow”, he once stated. “It has so many facets: peacefulness, melancholy, joy.” In Müller’s interpretation we are fascinated and moved by the music of a composer who clearly aspired to savor the vast variety and richness of human emotions. And in Müller’s hands, we have the impression of hearing these works for the first time.

Informations

Fabian Müller

During the last seasons, Fabian Müller could establish himself as one of the most remarkable German pianists of his generation. He caused a great sensation at the International ARD music competition in Munich 2017, when he not only won 2nd prize in the overall ranking, but was awarded with not less than four additional prizes: the audience prize, the Brothers Busch award, the special prize Genuin classics as well as the Henle Urtext award. The Süddeutsche Zeitung commented on his festival performance of Beethoven’s Piano Concerto No. 3: “This was played eminently clear, transparent, exciting in each phrase and every single tone. To play with such a controlled and round touch, but with fine expression and sense for structure and tension curves, is a stroke of luck.”
