The Education Programme, founded in 2006, is an integral part of the Ruhr Piano Festival. With our work, we want to inspire young people for music and support them in the long term – especially in places where cultural education is not a matter of course. We reach well over 1,000 children and young people every year in sustainably developed cooperation projects such as the neighbourhood work in Duisburg-Marxloh and Bochum-Gerthe or the Little Piano School in Essen. Throughout the year, they actively engage with music, discover their creative abilities and develop important social and personal skills. The Duisburg district of Hochfeld has been added as a new location in 2022.

Education also plays a central role in this year’s festival programme. In five events, children and young people will perform together with pianists from the festival. On 30 January, pupils from four different schools in Bochum-Gerthe will perform an inclusive choreography to John Adam’s Hallelujah Junction, which they created with Erika Pico and Bianca Pulungan. The rousing work for two pianos will be performed by Liga Korne and Lorenzo Soulès.
