Good things come in threes: we had already planned to feature young Georgian pianist Mariam Batsashvili’s debut at the Festival two times previously. In 2019 she had to withdraw for reasons of health; then the 2020 Advent Concert was cancelled due to the pandemic. Now we shall finally have the opportunity to hear the winner of the renowned Franz Liszt competition in Utrecht (2014) at the Ruhr Piano Festival in a programme that does not deny Batsashvili’s fascination for Liszt while allowing her to display further aspects of her fascinating musical approach in works by Franck and Schumann.
