Zugabe:
Johann Sebastian Bach: Contrapunctus II, aus: Kunst der Fuge BWV 1080
Piano music is much richer and more varied than the justifiably popular “core repertoire,” which is mainly from the 19th century. Kit Armstrong demonstrates the variety beyond those confines in his almost encyclopedic survey of five centuries of piano music, which he will present in five recitals at the Anneliese Brost Musikforum Ruhr. The overview ranges from pieces by John Bull and Thomas Tallis written around 1520 up to our times, with works by George Gershwin, György Ligeti, and Kit Armstrong’s own compositions. Within the scope of two days, the young American pianist and music researcher not only presents a thrilling compendium and kaleidoscope of keyboard music history; he also draws our attention to extraordinary, surprising links and reciprocal influences. Embark with us on this thrilling, enlightening musical voyage through the centuries!
