Zeche Zollern is considered by connoisseurs to be one of the most beautiful collieries in the world. After the successful launch of our Youngsters series, we are now integrating this magnificent setting even more closely into a comprehensive cultural experience. Here, you will not only get to know outstanding young pianists but also explore the extraordinary colliery site with its iconic brick buildings and Art Nouveau portals through guided tours and a snack with drinks.

On Saturday and Sunday, two concerts are scheduled each day: Jeneba Kanneh-Mason and Arsenij Moon will perform on Saturday and, like Anna Geniushene and Alexander Gadjiev, who will be heard on Sunday, are considered “rising stars.” Let yourself be inspired by Zeche Zollern and wonderful concerts in a holistic cultural experience!

Italian, Slovenian, English, German, and Russian: Alexander Gadjiev speaks all these languages, as the pianist has Russian roots and comes from the border region between Italy and Slovenia, where diverse cultures converge. Perhaps this is why he is so remarkably versatile and open when it comes to music.

At his concert at Zeche Zollern in Dortmund, Alexander Gadjiev creates a musical arc from the French Impressionism of Debussy through the folkloric elements of Bartók to Mussorgsky’s “Pictures at an Exhibition.” Between these works, the young pianist builds his own unique bridges: inspired by the music still fresh in his mind, he brings ideas to the keys, letting his thoughts and inspirations flow freely. Born entirely in the moment, Alexander Gadjiev improvises in the unique atmosphere of the steel-and-glass surroundings of the former machine hall at Zeche.

How does it sound? Let yourself be surprised!

Alexander Gadjiev

Musical experience and Central European culture: Alexander Gadjiev owes this on the one hand to his family, where both parents are piano teachers and musicians, and on the other hand to his hometown, the Italian-Slovenian border town of Gorizia, a natural crossroads of peoples, cultures and languages.
