Since his triumph at the 15th International Chopin Piano Competition in Warsaw in 2005, Rafał Blechacz has firmly established himself on the international concert scene.
He is widely acknowledged as the greatest performer of Chopin’s works in his generation, earning acclaim from audiences and press worldwide for his profound and virtuosic interpretations. In 2014, he was honored with the prestigious Gilmore Artist Award, a recognition given every four years to an exceptional concert pianist, irrespective of age or nationality.
Blechacz has collaborated with renowned orchestras such as the London Philharmonic Orchestra, City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra, Orchestre de Paris, and others. His recitals grace major concert halls globally, including Philharmonie Berlin, Wigmore Hall London, and Teatro alla Scala Milan.
Described as “thrillingly direct and fiercely engaged” by The Guardian’s Andrew Clements, Blechacz kicks off the 2023/2024 season with a performance alongside the Deutsches Symphonie-Orchester Berlin and Kent Nagano in Bad Kissingen. The season is filled with highlights, featuring recitals in Vienna and Cambridge, as well as tours in Japan and the United States.
An exclusive recording artist of Deutsche Grammophon, Blechacz’s debut recording of Chopin’s Préludes achieved Platinum status in Poland, along with the German ECHO Klassik and French Diapason d’Or awards. His recordings, including Chopin concerti with the Concertgebouworkest and works by Debussy and Szymanowski, have received critical acclaim. His latest recording, released in March 2023, features works by Frédéric Chopin, once again showcasing his dedication to the composer who has profoundly influenced his career.
Born in 1985, Blechacz began his piano studies at the age of five, continuing his education at the Arthur Rubinstein State School of Music in Bydgoszcz. He graduated from the Feliks Nowowiejski Academy of Music in Bydgoszcz in 2007, studying under Professor Katarzyna Popowa-Zydroń. In 2016, he earned a doctorate in music philosophy.
