Tonhalle

In 1926, a stunning planetarium was built on the banks of the Rhine in Düsseldorf. Its purpose was to make the roughly 5,984,000,000 kilometers from the Sun to the outermost planet of our solar system a bit more comprehensible. As so often happens in history, things turned out quite differently. In the 1970s, the city-famous dome was transformed into a concert hall, where audiences have since gathered to explore the boundless realms of culture. In 2005, the venue underwent another extensive renovation. The Tonhalle Düsseldorf is not only one of the most beautiful concert halls in Germany but is also acclaimed by renowned music critics as one of the best for acoustics. The blue dome of this impressive concert hall was equipped with LEDs and a sophisticated lighting design. This spectacular “indoor starry sky” makes concerts at the Tonhalle a visual experience as well. In this sense, the venue has returned to being what it always was: a “planetarium of music.”
