Radu Lupu, Dinu Lipatti, Sergiu Celibidache – Romania has produced a whole host of legendary artists who have made music history. Now the pianist Mădălina Dănilă is preparing to conquer the stages of the world.

She is currently completing her doctoral studies with Lambert Orkis in Philadelphia. His long-time chamber music partner Anne-Sophie Mutter, our 2023 prizewinner, has selected Dănilă as a scholarship holder for the 2024 Ruhr Piano Festival. In Bottrop, she will present an extremely varied programme ranging from Bach and Liszt to the Cuban composer Ernesto Lecuona. She will also perform excerpts from the magnificent piano cycle “Makrokosmos” by American composer George Crumb, whose work Mădălina Dănilă has long championed.
