Zugabe:br>Oscar Levant: Blame it on my Youth
Our portrait artist Kirill Gerstein plays two great piano concertos together with the WDR Symphony Orchestra: He plays George Gershwin’s “Rhapsody in Blue” as casually and light-footedly as no other pianist – without ever losing his grip. In combination with the Piano Concerto by Arnold Schoenberg, the programme features the music of two artists who could not be more different, but who cultivated an unlikely friendship in their Californian exile. Rachmaninov’s Symphonic Dances round off the programme with electrifying energy. Elim Chan, one of the most sought-after conductors of her generation and chief conductor of the Antwerp Symphony Orchestra, wil conduct.
