Eight Variations on a Theme by Count Waldstein WoO 67

Ludwig van Beethoven
Great Fugue in B Flat Major op. 134

Reinhard Febel
Studies on J. S. Bach’s Art of Fugue (2014) (selection)

Their names are recognized the world over as a synonym four-hand piano playing: Yaara Tal & Andreas Groethuysen, a true “dream team” of classical music who are also husband and wife. Ever since 1985, the Israeli pianist Yaara Tal and the German pianist Andreas Groethuysen have formed a piano duo: everything they touch turns to gold. The top-class musical partnership continues to unearth musical treasures. The piano rarities they will be presenting to the public in Bochum will include Beethoven’s Variations on a Theme by Count Waldstein (the dedicatee of the famous Waldstein Sonata); Beethoven’s four-hand piano arrangement of his masterful Great Fugue (originally for string quartet) is another likewise unfamiliar gem.
